Publication ethics

The Omnipotent editorial process is guided by the norms and recommendations of ethical standards and responsibility in scientific communication, established by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), and by the principles of ethics in publication, established in the “ Basic Practices ” and “ Flowcharts ” of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Omnipotent is affiliated with and follows the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Requests and appeals will be analyzed by the editor responsible for the article and by the editor-in chief, considering: the opinions of experts, editorial autonomy regarding the relevance and consistency of contributions and in light of ethical precepts and good practices in research and publication.

Below, we highlight some of the main responsibilities of professionals involved in publishing.

Authors

  • Authors undertake to be aware of the full content of the Omnipotent instructions to authors.
  • When submitting an article, authors must ensure that it is original and has not been submitted for publication in another journal at the same time. It is worth mentioning that Omnipotent accepts manuscripts published in recognized preprint repositories.
  • If there is a previous publication that presents content similar to or overlapping with that of the submitted article, authors must inform the editors at the time of submission and provide a copy of the similar or overlapping material for an editorial decision.
  • Regarding authorship, Omnipotent follows the ICMJE Recommendations. The following are the criteria for authorship, which must be met by all those designated as authors: (1) substantial contributions to the conception or design of the study; or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data from the work; (2) preparation of preliminary versions of the article or critical review of important intellectual content; (3) final approval of the version to be published; (4) agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work, in order to ensure that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved. Professionals who do not meet the four requirements, although they have contributed in other ways to the article, should be mentioned in the acknowledgments, but not identified as authors. The authors are responsible for acknowledging and obtaining written permission from all those cited in the acknowledgments section.
  • Regarding authorship, authors must indicate their contribution at each stage of the article’s preparation according to the following list, based on the CRediT Taxonomy: study design, data curation, data collection, data analysis, writing – original manuscript, writing – review and editing. Other information, such as: funding; ethical aspects; conflict of interest; previous presentation must also be indicated in the manuscript’s introduction.
  • The corresponding author, who assumes responsibility for communicating with the journal during the article submission, peer review and publication process, must ensure that all authors have reviewed the final version of the manuscript and agreed to its submission to Omnipotent.
  • It is the responsibility of the authors to maintain an adequate record of the study data and to provide access to such data when requested by the editors. Omnipotent encourages the deposit of datasets in a thematic repository or, when there is none, in a generalist or institutional repository, in order to facilitate sharing with other researchers, as recommended by the ICMJE.
  • Authors must confirm that all sources cited are indicated accurately and completely. When there is doubt about the inclusion of citations and respective references, the cited document must be verified or requested to be sent.
  • If, during the evaluation process, editors or reviewers detect excessive self-citation by authors and/or the journal, the corresponding author, or even all authors, will be contacted for clarification, in order to support the decision-making process.
  • Any form of scientific misconduct, such as data fabrication, data falsification, misappropriation of data and materials, and plagiarism, is unacceptable and constitutes grounds for rejection of the manuscript at any stage of the editorial process, in which case the editor will initiate appropriate procedures detailed by COPE. If scientific misconduct is detected after publication, Omnipotent will proceed with the retraction of the article in accordance with COPE's "Withdrawal Guidelines".
  • The author, or the first author of a scientific article, must ensure the veracity of the data produced by third parties, including collaborators of an article produced in co-authorship, avoiding acting with indifference to the risk that the material is false, fabricated or plagiarized, which may constitute misconduct due to negligence.
  • Authors must attach, at the time of submission, if applicable, the study approval protocol by the Research Ethics Committee involving human beings or animals. If applicable, they must also inform about obtaining the free and informed consent of the participants.
  • Because it involves public trust in the scientific process and the credibility of published articles, authors must declare whether there are any conflicts of interest that could influence the development of the study or its conduct. The declaration must be made in the body of the article, immediately after the references.
  • If authors identify any type of error in the article, at any stage of the editorial process, or even after its publication, they should contact the editorial team. In such situations, they are expected to cooperate with the editors in order to publish an erratum, express concern or retract the article.
